Warrior Christians

Ok, if you were paying attention on Sunday you would have heard Greg make a lot of references to fighting.  He said that Christians should be fighters.  What did he mean?  Doesn’t this make us just like violent Islam?  What happened to “turn the other cheek?”

When Jesus was talking about “turning the other cheek”, he was saying that when someone takes a wordly thing you shohuldn’t be angry and start getting physical, you should say they can have it. But when someone says or does something that outrightly offends God, like taking his name in vain or something like that, we should defend God because it should not only offend God, but also us.
That’s how i took it, at least.

No, we’re not like Islam, Daniel, you silly goose. We are to fight for our beliefs, but not violently. We don’t debate Christianity with someone and jump on them if they disagree. We don’t have “holy war,” or jihad. God doesn’t tell us to do that. “Turn the other cheek” means don’t take revenge. “Vengeance is mine, says the Lord.” What the “turn the other cheek” passage means isn’t to let someone beat the snot out of you. You can defend yourself. It means don’t take it on yourself to deal out “justice” simply because you were hurt. The victim doesn’t pass the sentence. The judge does. My dad talked specifically about a relative who punched someone that threw slime on his lunch, and the relative was sent to anger management. My dad was speaking against the “harmonious” nature of the world. The world has a “let’s have peace” outlook on everything, most recently the war in Iraq. Celebrities opposed Bush’s decision to go to war. Democrats want to pull out of Iraq and “negotiate” with those that we are waging war against. The word “hippies” was going through my mind all during that sermon.

When he said that we should fight, he meant fight sin.We shouldn’t give in to sin.

Why are there only three coments? There should be like way more.

  6. kt Says:

well, “turning the other cheek” doesn’t mean that we should not do anything.
and also, like squigs said, the Lord is the one and only judge. vengeance is His. we are to fight against the sin in this world but not for our glory or anything like that. it’s kinda like the “righteous anger”. but we aren’t religious murderers either.
i feel like i’m just repeating everything…. oh well! :)

Hi I’m new to this weblogin’ stuff…..Anyways I think that when God tell’s us to turn the other cheek we should in a way shrug what they did and just change the subject. Another words take advantage of the situation and let God shine through you to show the other person who took something tha way God would of reacted if they were doing it to him, another words say that they can just have it, cause reallty if you think about it I’m sure nothing is as great as the reward well get in heaven. Basically what “Allisdaughter” had said. Hope it makes sense.:-} Also, how did squigs get his picture to show? Tanks A Tot!!
